Akzidenz Grotesk is a grotesque typeface originally released by the Berthold Type Foundry in 1896.
The first sans serif typeface to be widely used and influenced many later neo-grotesque typefaces after 1950. Akzidenz Grotesk belongs to a tradition of general-purpose, unadorned sans-serif fonts that had become popular during the nineteenth century, at first in Britain and later in Germany.
